#BlackLivesMatter But Do Black Women

Sandra Bland, Renisha McBride, Marissa Alexander, and countless black women whose names will escape us in conversations about the injustices black people face daily.

I fully and whole-heartedly support the #BlackLivesMatter movement as it is undoubtedly necessary. But, I can’t help but wonder where our outrage, disgust, and riots are when black women are massacred, discredited, stomped on, and trampled. Where are the protesters for Sandra Bland? Where are the hashtags for Marissa Alexander? Where is the fucking pissed off people for the 13 women that former officer Daniel Holtzclaw rapped while on duty?

Black lives do matter. The black men that have been hunted down like wild boar in the jungle do matter. But, the black women that are raped, disregarded, murdered, beaten, taken advantage of, and assassinated on a every day basis also matter. Black women matter. We deserve to be heard.

On December 11th, I will be starting that conversation with Ask A Black Chick. I don’t have all of the answers, of course. I don’t know everything about the black female experience. But, what I do know for certain is that there is a wall between black women and the rest of the world. Our voices are silenced, our lives and struggles unseen. This only contributes to the problems and ignorance. AABC is the first step to change that.

Let’s break the cycle of ignorance and give black women a voice. Black women DO matter.
