3 Ways You Are Doing Too Much #TeamNatural

For some reason, I find that natural women feel like if they make being natural seem like a complicated, time consuming formula and process, it gives them some sort of credibility. Like if it takes them the entire afternoon to wash their hair, it is because they really know how to take care of their natural hair. Meanwhile, I’m over here wash, moisturize, twist and done in an hour. Are you doing too much?

1. Your shampoo day is literally an all day event- That is unnecessary. I just need to know what it is that takes all day. Even if I try to stretch the process, I still wouldn’t take all day.

2. Your detangling process is exhausting and long- Yes, detangling sucks. Yes, it could take about 45 mins. NO, it shouldn’t take 2+ hours.

3. You pre poo, shampoo, condition, deep condition, leave in, moisturize, heat cap, every wash session- Now you know you are doing too much. Your hair just does not need all of that. Deep condition once a month and pre poo when needed. That is enough.

What is your natural hair routine? Are you doing too much?

  1. Wow, I wish I could be done in one hour, my wash day is 5 hours, of course it is once every 3 to 4 weeks so I am happy πŸ˜€ am I doing too much, probably but it works for me, 2 hours to detangle ( I finger detangle very gently), DC for an hour, 2 hours to style an voila, done πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ I know I know, terrible but will improve…….some day……far in the future πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ thanks for the post dear.

  2. I am with you on this one. I already spend so much time detangling.
Why do I need to prepoo, shampoo, condition, deep condition, tea rinse and all that jargon all on the same day???
On my wash day all I do is cowash and detangle. And this still takes nothing less than 2hrs (I have thick hair strands that is densely crowded per inch meter, if that makes any sense).

I recommend natural hair sisters to keep it simple. It’s just hair and it’s always growing. Whether you prepoo or not. Over manipulation is not the key to long hair.

    • I agree! I have cut my maintenance time down significantly because I cut my hair. But when it was longer, I did a wash or rinse, condition, detangle, moisturize, and twist for a set. That is all. All of this prepoo, after-poo, deep condition, leave in, blah blah blah.. it is just too much. Deters women from going natural because it seems so incredibly time consuming. I take less time to do my natural hair than my permed hair for sure.
